So I was convinced by a thread on Ubuntu Forums to switch to the Dvorak keyboard layout. And that's all I'm going to say because typing is pretty slow right now. :)
I am assuming you mean the Programmar Dvorak and not the original or ANSI versions?
Did you purchase a new key board or make a software adjustment and rearrange your key caps? I guess the answer to that depends on whether you are using the Programmar Dvorak or not.
No, I'm using the classic Dvorak. I'm using the same keyboard and the same key layout (since the keys on my keyboard don't move). That pretty much forces me to touch type, which is a good thing! Also it will really confuse anyone using my computer.
What did you do to get the computer to recognize that, for example, you are not really typing "q" when you hit the "q" key? And how do you remember what letter or character the key is actually going to type? Did you print out a picture of the Dvorak keyboard?
I am interested in this because of the possibility that it doesn't lead to carpel tunnel syndrome as much as the QWERTY layout.
I'm just a random geek with no self esteem. Music, programming, and reading are what I do. Once every two months I have a great thought and start a blog, but forget what it was in the process of setting things up.

ReplyDeleteI would think that would definitely confuse them.

It's just a setting; on Windows you can probably change it in Control Panel someplace.
ReplyDeleteI thought I would have to print out a diagram, but the layout is actually very memorable so I never did.
